What do we do in Troop 221!
Troop 221 includes a year-round, traditional outdoor program of camping, hiking, backpacking, swimming, rafting, and canoeing through monthly campouts and summer camps. The troop usually attends summer camp out-of-state. We have attended the following summer camps in the past:
-
Camp Cris Dobbins in Colorado
-
Camp Kia Kima in Arkansas
-
Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia
-
Camp Hale in Oklahoma
-
Camp Alexander in Colorado
We usually plan sightseeing opportunities on these out-of-state trips that have included age-appropriate mountain hikes and white-water rafting for all participants. In addition, many of the older Scouts have backpacked in Colorado and New Mexico, hiked long backpacking treks at Philmont Scout Ranch, and scuba dived at Sea Base in Florida. The troop participates in District Camporee in the spring. The troop usually staffs an activity at Webelos Woods and/or Webelos Outdoor Weekend. Other recent troop activities include:
-
Sailing Merit Badge campout at Lake Texoma
-
Shooting sports campout for Rifle & Shotgun Merit Badge
-
Canoeing on the Brazos River & Caddo Lake
-
Camping at Turner Falls, Enchanted Rock, and Camp Tahuaya in Longhorn Council.
-
Day at Schlitterbahn water park with campout nearby in San Marcos
-
Space Camp at NASA in Houston
-
Backpacking at Cross Timbers Trail at Lake Texoma and Robbers Cave in Oklahoma
