In April, Troop 221 attended the District Camporee at Clements Scout Ranch. The notes below and accompanying pictures are from the Scoutmaster's email to the troop after the event. Click the image to see the whole gallery.
Trip Report:
Camporee was a success and we had a great trip but boy did it start out rough... The weather Friday evening was the worst that I've experienced in a tent. For 2 hours we had pretty steady lightning, thunder, wind & rain. It was magnified by the fact that it was coming from the west and we were camped on the east side of the lake without much cover. The good news is that everyone stayed calm and we made it thru. I expected the 1st Year Scouts to be a little shell-shocked Saturday morning but they didn't seem too bothered by it.
Saturday the boys competed in events like: tomahawk throwing, fire-building, knots, bulls-eye and a couple others. One of the older boys patrols got a 2nd place ribbon for tomahawk throwing and the 1st year patrol was part of an eight-way tie for 3rd in the cow patty toss (sponge balls soaked in water). Our tug-o-war team got pretty deep into the competition before being eliminated.
Saturday evening Nathan and Jordan were called out to be part of the Order of the Arrow. I thought it was pretty awesome to see a couple of our boys in the ring. Please congratulate those two next time you see them.
Sunday morning, Brad, Reagan, Chris, Michael & Jordan led the camp-wide Scout's Own Service. Brad did an excellent job putting the program together and the boys stood up in front of 300+ people and did an outstanding job.
We had a great weekend. I'm encouraged by the leadership in our troop and enjoy seeing what the boys can do. We definitely have some work to do to get the patrols working together as teams. I'm confident that we'll get there.
Thanks to Mrs. McMullen, Mr. Buercklin, Mr. Burke, Mr. Carlisi & Mr. McHatton for driving the boys to and from camp and spending their weekend in the woods.
