Troop 221

Celebrating 38 Years in Plano, Texas

Canoeing at Camp Constantin - 2010

In May, the troop camped at Camp Constantin on Possum Kingdom Lake.  The theme for the campout was canoeing.  The notes below summarize our weekend.

Trip Report:

We had a great weekend at Camp Constantin. 15 Scouts and 5 Adults made the trip and it was action packed. We spent a significant part of the day Saturday working on the classroom part of the Canoeing Merit Badge. Although we couldn't get on the water, we did manage to find a damaged canoe so that we could teach some practical skills in our campsite with an actual canoe.

Since we're gearing up for the Buffalo River Canoe Trip, we took a break from the camp stoves and prepared dinner over the open fire.

We spent nearly 4 hours in the water Sunday morning. We capsized, swamped, flipped, crashed and paddled about every way possible. We had some pretty nice dismounts and the whole crowd cheered every time someone managed to get back in the canoe during the solo exercises.

In the end, 14 Scouts earned the Canoeing Merit Badge and had a lot of fun along the way. We hope to see you on the next one.

I'd like to thank: Mr. Buercklin, Mr. Kosofsky, Mr. McMullen and Mr. Trautman for transporting the scouts this weekend and for all the help with the Merit Badge.
