Troop 221

Celebrating 38 Years in Plano, Texas

Transition Campout - 2011

In March, Troop 221 put together a transition campout for our incoming Scouts.  Click the image to see the whole gallery.

The 1st Year Scouts arrived Saturday morning and hit the ground running.  They learned what gear to bring and how to pack.  From there, they learned how to choose a campsite and setup our troop tents.  After stowing their gear, they went into the first of many rotations.  They learned about flag ceremonies, knots, fire, axe & knife safety, poisonous plants and many other things on their way to completing over 20 requirements towards 1st Class.

The boys did an excellent job and remained focused throughout the entire day.  Saturday evening they were awarded the Scout rank and placed into their new patrols.

It was awesome to watch the older boys teach and lead the 1st year scouts and I found it equally exciting to watch the 1st year guys soak it all in while getting to know each other.  What a great group and a great start to their Boy Scout experience.
